Description
Installing the DataDirect Driver for InterBase

These instructions assume that you have already installed InterBase, and you are now downloading and installing the Data Direct driver. If you have not yet installed InterBase, please read the installation instructions in the IBsetup.html file on your CD-ROM.

To install the DataDirect ODBC Driver on UNIX:

a) Unzip the Driver.

b) Untar the resulting tar file to your desired directory.

c) Set the ODBCINI variable to the directory that you installed to. For example, if you installed the driver to /datadirect you would set the ODBCINI variable to: /datadirect/odbc/odbc.ini

d) Set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include the lib directory of the odbc installation. For example, if you installed to: /datadirect, the LD_LIBRARY_PATH should include: /datadirect/odbc/lib

e) Edit the odbc.ini file to make sure that the InterBase DSN has the appropriate settings. For example, If you have installed to /opt/interbase the settings could be: /opt/interbase/examples/employee.gdb
username: sysdba
password: masterkey

f) Navigate to the odbc/example/ directory.

g) In the example directory, run the example executable.
You will be prompted for three fields.

h) Enter the following:
Datasource : InterBase
username: sysdba
password: masterkey
Your connection should now be successful.

Known Issues
- The Help button when administering Data Sources does not work if your default browser is not Internet Explorer. The Help shortcut installed in the Start menu may be used instead.
- Field Names are not listed for a Table if you have a table name which requires delimited identifiers.
